Conference for the official launch of emPLANT with the first students

emPLANT launch conference


On August 30, 2018 the emPLANT Consortium has officially launched the Erasmus Mundus Master Program in Plant Breeding – emPLANT with the first emPLANT students.

For the occasion, outstanding professionals of the seed sector were present to meet the students and give a conference on “What does the future hold for plant breeding?”:

  • Plant Breeding for a sustainable high quality food and feed supply – by Michel Dubois (Agricultural expert at UniLaSalle) and Vincent Pétiard (member of UniLaSalle’s Executive Board)
  • Role and place of biotechnology – by Emmanuel Lesprit (Regulations & Innovation Director at Union Française des Semenciers UFS)
  • Delivering innovation to the marketplace: challenges and perspectives – by Michael Keller (Secretary General of International Seed Federation ISF)
  • Germplasm protection: challenges and perspectives – by Benjamin Rivoire (Senior Program Officer at UPOV: International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants)

New emPLANT students had also the occasion to discuss with Franck Berger (President of UFS), Philippe Ledoux (Coordinator of seed selection activities at BASF), Guillaume de Castelbajac (Managing Director at ASUR plant breeding) and Alain Deshayes (President of AFBV).
